We have been lovingly raising German Shepherd Dogs on a small scale for over 35 years. Our puppies spend the first 3 weeks of their lives in our home with our family. Each pup receives individual handling, training and socialization every day. We respectfully follow "The Monks of New Skete" puppy handling techniques and guidelines and have produced extremely content, well-adjusted puppies for over 3 decades. These pups are a perfect addition to any family seeking to adopt a German Shepherd puppy.
Our dogs come from outstanding, working German lines. Zahara, the Dam of our current litter which was born which was born 1-31-13, came to us as an 8 week-old pup directly from The Monks of New Skete and is everything we could have hoped for. The monks breed for even well-balanced dogs and Zahara is an excellent example of this. "Zeager, the Sire, is a beautiful, friendly guy who is descended from very impressively titled German lines. Both Zahara and Zeager are courageous, intelligent, sweet-tempered and extremely willing to please."
Zahara loves to accompany us on horseback for 16 mile rides down the beach almost daily, trotting along beside us. They are both incredibly athletic dogs. Zahara is extremely well-mannered when she accompanies us on the beach, even if a horse spooks or another dog comes tearing down the beach, chasing us. On command, she heels off-leash by the horses' side in the middle all the chaos. Both parents are strikingly elegant in appearance with their beautiful black and tan coloring, gorgeous coats and substantial large boned physiques, (a quality that is sadly lacking in many American-bred German Shepherds).
Because we only raise one or two litters a year, we are able to spend a lot of quality time with each pup every day. They are carefully socialized with lots of men, women and children as well as cats, ducks, different breeds of dogs, and other farm animals such as cows and horses. We also make sure they are accustomed to various household appliances and farm machinery. They love to regularly accompany us on family walks through the woods and are very eager to "help" with various farm duties such as moving pasture sprinklers and barn chores. Many prospective puppy buyers choose to book a few days at Lake Lodge Bed and Barn so they can really get to know the dam and sire and become very well acquainted with the pups.
As a result of all the special training these pups receive, by the time they go to their adoptive families, each puppy will have a basic understanding of the commands, "come", "sit", "down", and will walk happily beside us on a leash.
